Connections

Welcome to my blog! Since this book is basically about connections to everything, I thought I would share the connection I have with my cat. As your questions and thoughts come in, I will do my best to respond you.
3 years ago my husband and I had the conversation about not taking in any more animals because at this point they would out live us. Wouldn’t you know it, with-in a week someone had dumped a cat with a litter of 5 kittens! We saw them walking down our road. We know all the animal people in our neighborhood and knew they didn’t belong to any one around here. So we said… just got to let them go. No way was we could keep 6 cats, we already had a house full of furry 4 legs! No one we called could take them either. A couple of days later I heard kittens crying from the barn. I checked and couldn’t find anything, but I could hear them under the floor. I got food and milk out. They would come out at dusk and eat. I was fearfull a fox or coyote would get them. Eventually I coaxed them onto the porch for food. Then put food into the live trap so a friend of ours could take them home to another area over five miles away. The deed was done! She picked them up and we thought, there, at least two have a home! The next day our little mini pin,Rasky, grabbed what he thought was a squirrel! It was the gray kitten, showing up from over 5 miles away the very next day! Bib did not come with him. Bib had a white bib around the front of here neck, so I called them Bib and Tucker… most have no idea what this old term means. (smile) He scared the crap out of her and she ran up the tree, every Hair standing at attention! I yelled at him… and went to grab the cat. He came over and started to lick her. I’m thinking oh rats… you better not bite her! He didn’t, he just kept licking her as long as I held her! I found a small box and put it in the bed room next to the kennel the dogs slept in. Rasky would not leave her alone. He just kept licking her. I figured if he was going to hurt her, he would have by now so I gingerly left the room. All was well. Amazingly, that night when the dogs were kenneled, Rasky picked up the kitten as if he was the mom and took her to bed with him and CeCe. Both dogs were rescue pets. Both had been very abused. For the next year Tucky slept in the dogs kennel with them. When they went hunting, she went right along and I noticed when she ran with the dogs, she had the same gate as the dogs! ( dogs and cats do not walk the same) I also realized she responded to the word NO!, exactly like the dogs! She listened and stopped whatever she was doing! She also understood the word treat. The dogs got a treat after they went last potty at night. She sat there with her head up expectantly, right next to them, eyes bright, like a sibling waiting for a goody from mom when I said the word treat!! And any time during the day when I say treat she responds the same way, even when she is alone.
About a year later I noticed she seemed to be acting odd. She started wanting to lick my forehead. It took me some time to figure out why. I’m diabetic. When my sugar gets low, sometimes my skin feels like I have ants running around under my skin. I have found that for me, when I feel that sensation, it means my blood sugar is low. If it is not corrected I could die. But if you are asleep and don’t wake up, you wouldn’t know to fix it. I realize that every now and then when she wants to sit near my head and lick my forehead, checking my blood sugar is the first thing I do. Rasky passed about a year ago. Ceca the older dog is under a Vets. care right now. I noticed that Tucky, will go up and sniff her, then lay on top of her and will stay that way until I check to see if its time for her meds ! I think this is amazing! We understand dogs can do this thing. But who would have thought a cat would? This shows the connections we have with other living things, How would she know that her person was not ok, or know to show in some way? What else is going on?How do they know? She was never trained like a drug or medical dog is. How do we know a lot of stuff that comes to us? It’s like there is a whole interaction of a giant web in the universe that “knows” everything and works together with everything, even if we don’t understand the why or how if it or even what IT is! This is just something in our world that we may not pay attention to. The intricacies of how life is connected and works together is amazing. Think of all the amazing things in your own life.
