What are Chakras and what does the third eye have to do with the pineal gland? Chaz H. West Warwick, RI
Thanks for your question Chaz, so sorry it has taken so long to answer.
The word Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit, The term chakra referrers to the seven major discs of subtle energy that run along the center of our body. Each chakra is related to a part of the body and affects certain aspects of our lives, like creativity, intuition, self-confidence and our general health and emotions. People who understand acupuncture and other “energy work” like Reiki, and other healing modalities, understand that energy IS. It’s always there, in everything and can never die. It only changes form. It is part of our system that western medicine has only recently, in the last 50 years, has really started to understand.
We have 7 major Chakras in our body proper, and several small ones in our hands and feet.
Our pineal gland is about the size of a pea. It sits nestled in the top of our brain, about the mid line and out side of the blood brain barrier. Some consider this the seat of the soul. ( It is the reason some cultures believe that if you die by decapitation,your soul can not reach God) { My personal belief is that our Creator, by what every name we are taught, never leaves us, no matter what.}
Some of the actual physical functions of the pineal is to regulate our circadian rhythms, produce melatonin which affects our circadian rhythms. According to my research ,our pineal gland is related to our energetic third eye chakra. Studies have shown a link between our pineal gland and N-dimethltriptamine, also known as DMT, according to 2019 research review, Trusted Source. This chemical is sometimes called the spirit molecule or the seat of the soul, because of it’s believed relationship to consciousness. It is believed by many that the third eye is the window to the spiritual world or to the soul. It is also believed by many that developing the third eye is the doorway to all things psychic. The illusion of separation between self and spirit dissolves when the third eye connection is cultivated. Our physical eyes see the world in physical form. When the “third eye” is open and our pineal is engaged, we see, feel and understand the full connections with everything. I have seen the aura or energy field of living plants, amazing! We can understand that we are one, we are all connected to everything, all the time. Some years ago Duke University conducted an experiment. They put electrodes on trees and a distance away, put live shrimp in boiling water. The trees in a different part of the campus reacted to the death of the shrimp. Life is much more then we often think it is. As some one who “sees/ feels,” I can say I agree that this. But until we all truly know this, it’s still hard at times, be a human and live here with all the confusions in day to day life. The more moments we can take to chill and be at peace the more we will see the connections.
Meditation activates our pineal gland through vibration…. I do not mean for you to throw yourself on the washer during the spin cycle! (smile) Vibration and frequency are part of our world. All sound and movement vibrates. Wales, dolphins and birds, travel and feed by understanding and interpreting different vibrations, some supersonic subsonic. We do as well but haven’t figured out just how yet. Vibration and frequency connects everything at different levels. Jumping around and dancing create a kind of vibration which has a frequency. Just like being calm and listening and focusing on your breathing creates a different kind of vibration and frequency.
Visualizations, of the peace and calm you seek also creates vibration and frequency. Everything truly does work together. Each component of our mind, body,consciousness and belief system work together with in us to Create our personal world. The vibes we create in our world effect others by extension.
I don’t mean to get into the weeds here Chaz, but everything is connected in every way. Often hard to explain the concepts we feel and see within. Even sitting for 10 min. a day with our eyes closed, focused on our breathing is a good thing. When I need to chill I sit in my rocker, ’cause the movement works for me, close my eyes and breathe ..exhale to a slow count of 4, hold for 4, breath out 4, hold 4 and continue until you feel relaxed. Then sit quietly for a few.
There is so much to write about this subject. There is much already written and a great deal of instruction out there.
One more thing I would like to mention. If you ever wonder why many Hindi peoples may wear a dot on their forehead, it is to mark their most spiritual place, the third eye. With clasped hands, a slight bow, eyes closed, will say, Namaste. They are saying, The God in me, honors the God in you. A greeting and blessing. The dot they wear is called a Bindi. It’s placed center forehead to honor the start of the Creation of the universe, The Mind of God, the Pineal gland. Many in the world believe this is the seat of God with-in us. Our own scriptures tell us that God is with-in.
In Ayurvedic philosophy, the third eye is represented by the Ajna chakra. In Ancient Egypt, the symbol of the Eye of Horus mirrors the placement of the pineal gland in the profile of the human head.
The third eye Chakra is sometime called our sixth sense and believed to be connected to our pineal gland. Some believe that opening the third eye can increase our perception, intuitiveness and spiritual connections.
I hope this answers your question Chaz. There is so very much more to be learned and understood. But the one good thing about a computer is that we can look stuff up without struggling through a library that may not have the information we are looking for and decide if we agree or have a different idea.
Keep well, and enjoy puzzling out the Chakra mysteries!
Sonja, with love
