Q. Would you please re run an article you wrote a couple of years ago or so ago about acupuncture? My brother has allergies. None of the medication he takes helps him. His doctor said he should try acupuncture, but I can’t remember what you said about it. I know there is someone in the area, but can’t remember his name. Bob H. Clayton

Sure Bob, Thanks. Acupuncture has its roots deeply planted in China. In fact, authorities agree this science is between 5,000 and 7,000 years old. Its use spread throughout ancient Egypt, the Middle East, the Roman Empire and later into Western Europe as merchants and missionaries to China told of the amazing discoveries the people of the Orient had developed. Acupuncture did not become known on a national level in the U.S. until 1971 when diplomatic relations between China and America were relaxed.

Early Chinese physicians discovered there is an energy network traversing just below the surface of the skin which communicates from the exterior to the internal organs and structures over 1,000 “Acupoints” on the body. This energy works in harmony with the body’s circulatory, nervous, muscular, digestive, genitourinary and all other systems of the body. When this vital energy becomes blocked or weakened, the effect the blockage has on your body becomes evident. Stimulation of one or a combination of key “Acupoints” on the body may restore harmony to the affected area.

I saw amazing results with the use of acupuncture while I was studying in China, 33 years ago now. Over time, paraplegics regained their normal functioning abilities with the use of acupuncture and ‘energy work’ called Qi Gong. I witnessed people undergoing surgery without anesthesia, fully conscious and without pain. I’m not trained in acupuncture but I am trained to use acupressure, or Shiatsu, using the same pressure points and pressing the point in a moderate way to allow the body’s energy to flow from point to point unimpeded, allowing for balance.

The human body works on a balancing system. To be in optimal health your physical, emotional, spiritual and energy body needs to be balanced. Acupuncture or acupressure work in a way to balance the body, mind

and emotions by allowing the body’s energy to move freely through the energy systems.

The human body’s energy flow courses over 12 meridians or channels that are normally well balanced. If a disruption of energy flow exists, be it physical or emotional, it can alter the entire system, producing pain or symptoms of illness in the body.

Most people think inserting a needle into their skin would be painful since most of us can relate to being stuck with a pin or getting a shot. Because of the extreme slenderness of the needle, nearly as thin as a human hair, most people compare the sensations to “less than a mosquito bite.” Most of the time I never feel the needle.

There are several Chiropractors that use Acupuncture. Call around and ask. Or perhaps you can find one on line. I have found that even within Acupuncture there are specialties. There are practitioners who specialize in Acupuncture of the ear, hands or feet only.

The ear holds are more than 100 Acupoints which relate to various organ systems and parts of the body. During fetal development the 1st structure

to form is the brain and spinal cord. At about the same time, what

later becomes the external ear also develops. Accordingly, there is a very strong relationship between the external ear and the central nervous

system.

The Ancient Chinese viewed the ear as resembling an upside down fetus with all the body parts proportionately arranged in and on the ear. Therefore, the lobe of the ear would relate to the head, brain, stem, face, etc., whereas the top of the ear relates to the knee, foot, ankle, etc. The success rate in Ear Acupuncture is remarkable. 1000’s of American

physicians have begun using Ear Acupuncture as an adjunct to their practice. People are finding relief from pain, anxiety, addictions and stress with little or no discomfort. Just an interesting tid-bit. Anyone can look this up and see the diagrams. Really amazing that we have been put together in such an incredible way… everything connects and works together!

I have personally experienced ear acupuncture for stress and pain and found the results amazing.

Currently, I don’t know any acupuncturist working in this area, at this time. Although I offer Emotional Freedom Techniques also known as Tapping. A process you can learn to help yourself with health issues and pain reduction. Easy to learn and it works amazingly. I use it myself. This is a way of working with acupuncture points. I teach you how to do this for yourself through my workshops and seminars. I am also an “Energy Mover”,a Reiki Master Teacher and offer classes.

Keep well, and don’t worry….. water will not flow out of your acupuncture points when you drink a glass of water after you have a session! (giggle)

Have a wonderful day, think about what a wonderful body we have been given!
