Connections

I posted this because I felt it brings home the connectedness of us all, with everything. Our book tries to show how we are all amazingly connected in ways that we were never taught. (smile)

Changes

The girth of the stately elder lay on the cold wet ground absorbing the earths moisture. Gone was the pale green of his infancy as his arms grew each day to reach the sky, his feet planted deeply into the nurturing soil of his mother. Gone was the dark green of his youth and adulthood as his arms grew even more strongly upward, swaying towards the life giving sun. As the excitement in his veins grew, he became more attractive each year, enjoying this new life he had been given again. Birds found homes, squirrels scampered running, jumping and leaping from branch to branch with no thought.

His fall colors of brown and muted orange, gave way as the cold winter ice and storms worked their way into his nooks and crannies, allowing him to sleep blissfully each winter. As he ripened to the blossoming spring of each new year, new adventurous worlds unfolded. Many deer came to graze on his dropped rich fruit. Plentiful, wild rabbits hid behind his huge trunk for safety. Our chickens scratched for bits and bugs under his wide protecting branches, giving nourishment to both tree and chick. Lady Hawk gracefully making wide circles overhead, keeping her sharp eyes peeled to spy the smallest false move below. Dogs peed on his thickening bark… well they did! The children climbed and swung on his strong branches. We sat thankfully in his shade, keeping safe from the high summer sun.

His life was full of wonderment although he had not moved an inch since he was a seedling. But he knew time for another journey was near. He could feel it, he had started to creek , just a little, then a lot as he swayed in the storms. He knew. Although he did not know what he knew. He had no fear. He just knew the universe would let him continue.

One night, there was a terrible storm, like the ones he had always been strong enough to withstand. But this time the lightning struck him in his heart and he knew it was time. He lay on the ground, absorbing the moisture like he once did as a seedling. He knew there would be another adventure although he knew not what.

Soon they came with saws and axes to help him start his new life. It didn’t hurt. He could hear them talking about how wonderful it would be to have him in their homes keeping them warm this winter. It gladdened his multi ringed heart to know he would be useful to other living creatures. He would bring warmth and ash to help others thrive. Smoke and bits of particle would travel the world to help others live in their own way. He was not finished. He had just moved into another adventure. He could feel pieces of is new life start as his little acorns nestled their small bodies into the rain soaked ground, getting ready for another season in a new life.

We found him laying there, getting ready this morning, after the terrible storm last night.

All Life lives on, always…

( When I put my hands on the fallen tree, these are the pictures of it’s life that came flooding my brain. I cried for two weeks and had no idea why. I realized in retrospect that this was not just about the tree, but about the loss of my husband that would happen a year later, almost to the day. I believe the tree was telling me that we are all connected and always will be. ENERGY IS. It can never be destroyed. It only changes form, as do we. )

In reality he actually left on the 30th.
